i guess its a bit of ego of one sex over the other.. the woman makes the man believe that she has satisfied him and the man believes that he has managed to take complete advantage over a woman, win her heart and then ditch her for hunting further..
Very interesting analysis Freya, I must confess having done the same. Hmm..I think its because a man finds it a weakness to hurt a woman...so rather than breaking up...he continues to drag his feet...till he can't take it anymore...or finds a better woman to be with. Its a very paradoxical situation, because he ends up hurting her anyway...but this time around he has somewhere in his mind given up ownership of her and that relationship
